What is Somatic Therapy?

a holistic pathway to healing which recognizes the mind and body as connected and intertwined

Your physical body creates an imprint of difficult memories, emotions, and trauma just like your mind does. If not sufficiently processed and released, your most challenging life experiences can become stuck, trapped and frozen in time on an energetic level. 

These holding patterns create blockages which disrupt the natural healthy flow of your body's energy and affect the functioning of your nervous system. If left untreated, physical wellness will suffer with the development of muscular tension, chronic pain, ailments and disease. Mental health will deteriorate as trapped energy maintains symptoms of anxiety, depression and PTSD.

Stress reduction, regulated moods, less reactivity and irritability, feeling in control of your emotions, greater frustration tolerance, improved sleep, pain relief, increased energy and motivation, ability to feel at peace, decreased anxiety, better posture, enhanced body awareness and connection.


Sessions begin with discussion of your current physical and emotional state of being. We set an intention for the release work that we'll do together. You are then taken through a series of different healing techniques and strategies that will treat and address your specific needs. This work will often feel very peaceful and relaxing, but at times will require physical effort and also discomfort.  As the body lets go of physical holding patterns, it also releases the emotional imprint of those stuck experiences. (anger, fear, grief, shame) This can feel overwhelming but ultimately will be liberating. 


Sessions are 90 minutes long. They take place in person and cost $150.

I do not take insurance for these sessions. 


It varies by practitioner. Based on my own certifications, experience and training, a therapy session with me will include some combination of: 


breathwork/pranayama, acupressure, trauma release exercises, EFT/tapping, healing sound frequencies, chakra balancing, mind-body integration, sensory repatterning, myofascial release, vagus nerve reset, meditation, mindfulness, guided imagery, visualization, grounding and restorative yoga poses. 


About Me

Sarah R. Memoli LMHC, HHP, RYT

After graduating from Boston College with a MA in Counseling Psychology in 2002, I moved to San Diego to finish my intern hours for licensing as an LMHC. There I was introduced to and fell in love with holistic wellness. The mind-body connection intrigued and made sense to me.           I completed a 1000-hr program to become certified as a Holistic Health Practitioner in California and studied with renowned and innovative healers in the (then) still emerging field of Somatic Therapy. When I returned to Rhode Island, I completed a 200-hr Yoga Teacher Training in order to deepen my understanding of how to foster healing and harmony through movement of the body and the breath. I have been in private practice for almost 20 years with a mission of helping other humans to find a more peaceful, joyful and meaningful existence.          I feel honored to guide my clients on their journeys and grateful for all of the healers who have supported me on my own.
